A Danbury Tradition With Roots Going Back to 1995
The Greater Danbury Irish Festival has a history that reaches back more than three decades.
According to the festival's official history, the idea originated with Gerry Curran, then president of the Danbury Ancient Order of Hibernians, who worked with Sharon Higgins of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and other members of the local AOH and LAOH organizations to establish an event celebrating and preserving Irish music and culture.
The first Greater Danbury Irish Festival was held at Rogers Park in 1995. Proceeds from the early festivals were intended to help establish an Irish Cultural Center in Danbury.
Over the years, the festival has appeared at several locations, including the Ives Center, the Irish Cultural Center on Lake Avenue, the Portuguese Cultural Center and, for one year, the New Milford Green. After the pandemic interruption of 2020 and 2021, the festival returned, and in 2023 it came back to Danbury.
For 2026, it is once again being held at the Greater Danbury Irish Cultural Center on Lake Avenue, returning the celebration to a place directly connected with the organization's mission and history.

The Brookfield Craft Center at 286 Whisconier Road in Brookfield, Connecticut has scheduled its Fall Open House for Saturday, October 17, 2026. The event gives visitors an opportunity to explore the Craft Center’s campus and watch instructors demonstrate their work in the studios. The Center is a nonprofit school and gallery dedicated to fine craft and has been part of the Brookfield community since 1954.
