Welcome to Candlewood Lake
Waterfront Living in the Heart of Western Connecticut
Welcome to Candlewood Lake, Connecticut’s largest lake and one of its most desirable places to live. Located just 90 minutes from NYC and spanning five towns, Danbury, Brookfield, New Fairfield, New Milford and Sherman. Candlewood offers a rare blend of natural beauty, vibrant community life and year-round recreation.
This 5,400-acre lake is perfect for boating, swimming, paddleboarding, fishing, and simply enjoying the view. You’ll find charming lakefront communities like Candlewood Isle, Candlewood Shores, Candlewood Knolls and Sail Harbour, each offering private beaches, docks, clubhouses and neighborhood events that bring residents together. Offer a range of housing options, from luxury waterfront estates to charming seasonal cottages, many with private docks and lake access. With proximity to New York City and easy access to highways, shopping, dining, and top-rated schools, Candlewood Lake is ideal for both full-time residents and weekenders.
Beyond the water, you’ll enjoy nearby restaurants like Down the Hatch (waterfront), The Cue, and The 440 Line, along with boutique shopping, hiking trails and local farmers markets. Whether you're watching fireworks from your dock or taking a winter walk through the snow, Candlewood is always alive with possibility.
The lake was created in the late 1920s and early 1930s when the Connecticut Light & Power Company dammed the Rocky River and flooded the area to build a hydroelectric reservoir. This project resulted in the largest man-made lake in Connecticut, flooding a valley that once included farms, homes, and small villages, some remnants of which remain submerged beneath the lake’s clear waters. Today, Candlewood Lake has grown into Connecticut’s ultimate lake destination, a hub for outdoor activity, from boating and jet skiing to paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing. In the summer, residents enjoy sandy beaches, waterfront parks, and community events, while in winter, the lake transforms into a peaceful setting for ice fishing and quiet, snow-covered views. If you're dreaming of a place where life feels like a vacation, Candlewood Lake is calling.
