From an agricultural fair in Goshen and a hometown parade through Newtown to carnival nights in Woodbury and vintage racecars at Lime Rock Park, the September 3 through September 7, 2026 weekend offers several distinctly Connecticut ways to close out summer. Goshen Fair: September 5–7
Few events capture Labor Day weekend in the Litchfield Hills quite like the Goshen Fair.
The 2026 fair runs Saturday through Monday at the Goshen Fairgrounds, 116 Old Middle Street, with gates open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.
The weekend combines agriculture with midway rides, games, livestock barns, exhibition halls, food vendors, children's entertainment and live music. Motor events include truck pulling Saturday, an antique tractor pull Sunday and garden tractor pulling Monday.
Newtown Labor Day Parade: September 7
Monday morning belongs to the Newtown Labor Day Parade, one of Fairfield County's longstanding holiday traditions.
The parade takes place Monday, September 7, with lineup beginning at 7:30 a.m. and step-off scheduled for 10 a.m.
The 2026 theme is “Picture Perfect Parade,” with longtime local photographer Bill Glass serving as Grand Marshal.
Woodbury Firefighters' Carnival: September 3–5
Woodbury begins its Labor Day celebration before the weekend officially arrives.
The Woodbury Firefighters' Carnival runs Thursday through Saturday at Hollow Park, 43 Hollow Road, from 6 to 10 p.m. each evening.
Visitors can expect carnival rides, midway attractions and food prepared by Woodbury firefighters. Saturday night concludes with fireworks at approximately 9:15 p.m. Proceeds support fire department equipment purchases.
Bridgewater Tractor Parade: September 6
Bridgewater adds a distinctly rural Connecticut tradition Sunday afternoon.
The Annual Tractor Parade begins with lineup at 1:30 p.m. at Shallow Brook Farm, followed by parade step-off at 2:30 p.m.
Tractors, lawn tractors, floats, side-by-sides, golf carts and bicycles are encouraged to participate. Following the parade, festivities continue at Pratt Pavilion with awards, live music and barbecue.
Historic Festival 44 at Lime Rock Park: September 4–7
For something entirely different, head north to Lakeville.
Historic Festival 44 at Lime Rock Park brings vintage racecars and motorsports history to the Northwest Corner throughout Labor Day weekend.
Friday includes practice and qualifying, Saturday and Monday bring historic racing, and Sunday features Sunday in the Park, including the Lime Rock Concours and Gathering of the Marques.
Make a Weekend of It
These events also offer very different ways to experience Western Connecticut.
Goshen and Bridgewater lean into the agricultural and rural traditions of the Litchfield Hills. Woodbury's carnival reflects the role volunteer organizations continue to play in local communities. Newtown's parade brings residents and organizations together along a traditional town route, while Lime Rock provides an entirely different look at the Northwest Corner.
